A hidden treasure - Pottery Barn-ish style!

I live in Covered Bridge country here in Indiana...and for the past 10 days the Covered Bridge Festival has been in full swing! I always enjoy the Covered Bridge festival...and go every year...it takes place in 3 small towns...and practically every road connecting them!

This year...because of several factors...I was not going to get the chance to go..but at the last min on Saturday...sort of an after thought really...myself...my hubby... and my Arkansas son... decided to take off in the direction of one of the towns and hit the yard sales along the way.  I really didn't expect to find to much...I'm the type that's up at the crack of dawn...hitting the sales in the first couple of hours...and not 9 days into a 10 day festival!  Figuring I would find nothing left worth finding...we ventured out for a ride on a beautiful day!
However much to my wonderful surprise did appear...an ugly round faux leather covered mear-er
(I'm NOT a poet and I know it! LOL!)
Anyway...here is the mirror in its original but disheveled studded faux alligator leather glory.....

Oh yeah...she is a beaut!

You can't see it in picture...but written across the glass...in permanent marker...$5.00.  Mr. Eraser...I love you!

Now you might think that's a good price...I know I did...but I have an illness...it has passed down through the generations...and I just can't help myself...I have to offer less...(don't judge me...like I said... it's hereditary!).  Anyway, I asked her "would you take 3.00 for it?" to which she answered..."no...I paid a lot for it...but I'll take 3.50"...which cracked me up, but I gladly gave her the 3.50.

Anyway...I get my mirror home...wondered when I would get around to pulling out all of those upholstery tacks...how I would get the glued faux alligator leather off...and what would I find underneath...and what exactly would I do with it when I did.  Would I be able to paint?   What kind of artsy thing could I do with this mirror?  Sometimes my finds will clutter sit in my garage or basement forever, until I decide what to do to it...or my hubby gets in the mood for a bonfire...which ever comes first!

This time though...I had my Arkansas son...willing to help his mom out...and began the dismantling of my latest acquisition.

He tugged and pulled....and removed all of these...(which I will save for some future project...maybe)

Then he tugged and pulled....and removed the faux alligator leather...

As I watched his progress...I began to have a clear picture of what I wanted to do to this mirror...

and you know what I decided to do...

Nothing!

I was really liking it's rustic looking wood self...

just as it was...tack holes and all!

Now keep in mind...there was a sticky residue left from the glued on, faux alligator leather...I thought about sanding it a bit...but you know what...I hung it up...and when the light hits it just the right way...it gives it a little glazed look...that I liked!

And not only that, I had the exact spot to hang it...I have never been so excited!  (Well, maybe I exaggerate a bit, but I was thrilled!

I LOVE this mirror!

And here it is hanging in it's new location...

I absolutely LOVE it...did I say that already?

P.S.  Up for discussion...do you think my lamps are a bit to big
for the nightstands?

Back to the mirror
Now doesn't that just look like something you might be able to find at Pottery Barn (minus the ugly brass ceiling fan of course!)??
I think so...and for a whole 3.50...
quite thrifty!

P.S.S. Since my Arkansas son, might not be happy with me putting that picture on here...I thought I would share a great picture of him and his beautiful wife on their honeymoon...2 years ago.

Thanks for stopping by...
Would love to hear from you...
and if you follow me...you'll make my day!!
and I'll follow back

  1. I can't believe somebody covered up that mirror. What a good eye you have to see beneath its exterior to the beauty just waiting for you. It looks great over your bed. You can't beat the price, well, unless you had gotten it for $3. hahaha
